We got off to a rocky start. When I was a newborn she pulled the cardboard box I was sleeping in onto the floor. Later, I unintentionally "helped" her out of a second-story window onto a cement floor resulting in a broken arm. Over time, however, she became my second mother, best friend, confidant, and co-conspirator.

When as a middle schooler I came down with mono, she dressed up like a nurse and hovered over me cooling my forehead with wet washcloths and soothing back rubs, being careful to wash her hands frequently with Neutrogena soap, which is not my favorite to this day.

She sewed clothes for me to go to FEA when I was 13, and then when she came for one week before we had to come back to the US, she lengthened all my dresses and washed all my clothes. She always thought of and took care of me even up to her last days. She truly was more than my best friend. Our hearts were entwined as one.

Precious sister, rest until we meet again.

Love your sister,

Carola
